History

In 1979, a group of concerned citizens in Far East Contra Costa County formed Delta Community Services, Inc. (DCS), a non-profit organization with the general goal of creating a community service center for Brentwood, Bethel Island, Byron, Knightsen, Oakley and later Discovery Bay. The original mission was to be a facilitator of services, bringing together local agencies and programs to serve area residents with funding provided by an annual grant. It also served as a community advocate and organizer, as well as provide local meeting facilities.

In 1998, the City of Brentwood began to provide funding through
a) an annual grant
b) free building space for the operation of a no charge Thrift Shop for the community.

In 2022 the building was sold.  Thrift Shop operations ceased on December 31, 2022.  In November 2023 the City of Brentwood ended the annual grant.

DCS is volunteer-based and solely supported by both grants and the generous donations from hundreds of local residents.

In 2023 DCS began partnering with Village Community Resource Center (VCRC) to be a broader local resource for our underserved community.
